- 85% of the world's abrasive manufacturers produce martensitic structure. The remaining 15% are cast iron, stainless and bainitic. Martensitic structure is the most common form of production and is the latest technology.
- High carbon steel balls are produced by melting manufacturing scraps such as pipe, profile, sheet metal etc. with the required amount of carbon, manganese and silica reinforcement in an induction furnace at 1600 - 1650 °C and cooling in water after atomization. After casting, the martensitic structure is formed by annealing the balls at a certain degree in annealing furnaces and pouring them into water. At this time, the hardness of the balls is around 67 HRC. Steel balls and grits with martensitic structure can be reduced from 67 HRC hardness to 40 HRC hardness in temper furnaces after heat treatment.
- The main thing in sandblasting is that the hardness of the sandblasting balls and grits used should be at least 3 - 5 HRC harder than the sandblasted surface so that the cleaning and roughness to be obtained on the surface can be faster and with the desired properties. Using balls with a hardness lower than the hardness of the blasted surface prolongs the blasting time and cannot achieve the desired cleaning. This leads to increased labor and energy consumption in the blasting process. Only 10-15% of the cost of the blasting process consists of blasting material. The remaining 85-90% consists of labor and energy costs. For this reason, the selection of material with appropriate hardness and size is of great importance in terms of process cost. Martensitic structure is a production method that allows production at desired hardness values between 40 - 67 HRC.
